•Surround him with healthy, engaged, active men who read(!) - he craves knowing what it is to be a man
•Mom, you have to let go. It's painful, grief-filled - he can only come back to you as a man if he has learned to stand on his own as a man - and that happens with those men noted above
•How is he caring for his family, his home, his room? Give him chores, age-appropriately, and then give him more challenge. Even 3 year olds can have some responsibilities around the house. If he isn't doing his laundry, he needs to be!
•Be explicit about the importance of reading and writing - these are the skills that are going to help him "survive" and excel in high school and college
•Media will be ever-present in his life - help him manage it, see the advantages AND the disadvantages and make sure time in nature, school work
